Product Description

b/s/t Heating Element SR – Self-regulating heating cable with protective conductor braid for roof drains and gargoyles.

General Information

Read these instructions carefully and keep them with the device. Observe and follow the safety instructions. These operating instructions are an integral part of the device. The operating instructions must be kept for the entire service life of the device. The operating instructions must be passed on to each subsequent owner of the device.

The b/s/t Heating Element SR consists of a self-regulating heating cable and can be used as trace heating for drains and pipes (see DIN 1986-100, section 6.3.4) to protect against freezing.

The self-regulating effect means that the heating output depends on the ambient temperature. If the outside temperature drops, the heating cable's output increases to compensate for heat loss. As soon as the temperature rises, the heating cable's output decreases again.

The b/s/t SR heating element may only be operated during the cold season and when there is a risk of frost. To automatically disconnect the trace heating from the mains power supply during the warmer months, a thermostat with an outdoor sensor can be installed.

Application

• Intended use: Roof drain and pipe heating to prevent gullies and downspouts on flat roofs from freezing.

• Suitable for roof drains and pipes with diameters from DN70 to a maximum of DN200 made of various materials: PVC, PP, HDPE, aluminum, and metal.

• Not suitable for use in sprinkler systems or water-carrying pipes. Not suitable for use in potentially explosive atmospheres.

• This trace heating is not intended for continuous operation. It consumes power even at higher ambient temperatures; therefore, it must be operated either with a thermostat (available from specialist retailers) or only during the cold season.
... Installation

The b/s/t SR heating element is looped around the pipe with its flat side facing down. For vertical drains, the connecting cable should always point downwards.

The heating element is secured with the cable tie. The cable tie should only be tightened enough to prevent the heating element from slipping on the pipe.

Ensure that the heating element is in even and full contact with the pipe wall. The heating element must not be kinked. The minimum pipe diameter is 75 mm (DN70). The installation surface should be inspected for sharp edges, which should be removed if necessary. The surfaces must be clean and free of dirt.

For warm roof constructions, the heating element is attached to the pipe of the main structure, below the insulation layer and the supporting structure. For cold roofs, the heating element can be mounted below the supporting structure on the drain pipe. For downspouts, only insulation materials of building material class A according to DIN 4102 may be used in the area surrounding the heating cable.

Electrical Installation

• Electrical connection and installation may only be carried out by a qualified electrician. The relevant VDE and utility company regulations must be observed.

• Trace heating systems must be operated and maintained in such a way as to ensure safe operation.

• C-characteristic circuit breakers and 30 mA residual current devices (RCDs) must be provided.

• Overcurrent protection devices must be provided for each secondary circuit.

• All mains power circuits must be switched off before installation and maintenance.

• A device for disconnecting all live conductors from the power supply is required.
