Megant S - Flexible connector for extreme loads

The Megant S is designed for force transfer of up to 950 kN. Its hinged design allows the secondary beam to deflect freely without torsional stiffness, minimizing stress on connected components and the overall structure. Ideal for tall and long glued laminated timber beams.

The Megant S, consisting of two stacked connector plates, can join all common building materials:

  • Wood-to-wood connections
    •  Solid structural timber (softwood or hardwood)
    • Glued laminated timber (spruce or ash/beech GLT)
    • Laminated veneer lumber (Kerto/BauBuche)
  • Wood-to-steel connections
  • Wood-to-concrete connections

There are four different sizes suitable for the following connections:

  • Wood-to-wood connections
    • 1080 x 200 x 30 mm (height x width x thickness)
    • 680 x 200 x 30 mm
  • Wood-to-steel and wood-to-concrete connections
    • 930 x 200 x 30 mm
    • 530 x 200 x 30 mm

The Megant S can be mounted visibly or concealed on two sides. For concealed mounting, the secondary beam is cut diagonally at the bottom to allow necessary freedom of movement and avoid constraints (high compressive stresses) between components due to beam deflection. A fire protection tape can be installed in the joints if fire protection is required. The fire protection tape swells in case of fire and protects the connector for up to 120 minutes. To ensure easy installation, length tolerances of the beams up to 4.4mm can be compensated. Long fully threaded rods or screwed threaded rods serve as lateral tension reinforcement, protecting the main and secondary beams from lateral tension failure.

The Megant S has the ETA approval ETA-23/03202 and is produced in the desired quantity upon request.
