RICON S 390 – Heavy-duty connector for load-bearing connections in timber engineering
The RICON S 390 with a load capacity of up to 230 kN is a concealed, heavy-duty connector – ideal for main-secondary beam and secondary beam-column connections in multi-story timber frame and engineered timber construction – and industrial prefabrication.
Development of the RICON S series for higher load capacity
The fire-galvanized steel connector represents a logical further development of the proven RICON S series – with the aim of enabling significantly higher load-bearing capacities. For comparison: Previous RICON S models with two welded collar bolts achieved a load-bearing capacity of up to 99 kN.
Depending on the application, the RICON S 390 achieves the following load-bearing capacities:
-
Up to 195.3 kN for main-secondary beam connections
-
Up to 164.8 kN for beam-column connections
-
Up to 230 kN for connections between oak components
It enables reliable connections between:
-
Wood and wood (e.g., glued laminated timber)
-
Wood and steel (steel connection with metric screws, at least hexagon screws M10 x 20)
-
Wood and concrete (concrete connection using glued-in threaded rods to which the connector is fastened with nuts)
Structure and variations
The two-part RICON S 390 owes its high load-bearing capacity to a additionally welded steel plate. The force is transferred between the two connector plates via the two welded collar bolts and the contact pressure between the connector plate and the 80x50x25 mm steel plate. This additional plate is equipped with two long 30° fully threaded bolts, which act as additional force reinforcement for the connector on the one hand and as transverse tensile reinforcement for the secondary girder on the other. The load is transferred by these 30° screws via tension, while the other horizontal screws transfer the load via shear. The connector is connected with VS type collar bolts (welded) for maximum load-bearing capacity.
The RICON S 390 can be pre-assembled using standard tools. A hook-in distance of only 35 mm ensures quick, effortless final assembly, with the V-shape making hooking in even easier. The supplied KNAPP SK screws with drill tip and reinforced shaft ensure a quick, secure connection. This makes the connector ideal for temporary buildings and reusable structures based on the circular economy principle. The optional lock can also be used for loads in the opposite direction to the attachment direction.
