Truck Crane AK 48 Brings Movement to the Roof

The Böcker AK 48 impressed during the renovation of the 2,000 m² roof of the Lago leisure pool in Herne: 50 lifting operations in 4 hours, 28.5 m reach, and 1,000 kg load capacity. Fast, precise, and efficient – an essential tool for large-scale projects by Theo Milte Bedachungs GmbH!

As part of an energy-efficient renovation, Theo Milte Bedachungs GmbH is replacing the flat roof of the Lago leisure pool in the Gysenberg Park, Herne. In the second phase of the renovation, which began in 2023, the Böcker truck crane AK 48 managed the material logistics for a roof area of around 2,000 m². Since mid-2024, the first crane of the new generation has been supporting the Castrop-Rauxel-based company, especially in large-scale residential and industrial construction projects.

During the extensive roof renovation above the saltwater and indoor pool areas, the AK 48 facilitated the swift removal and reconstruction of the flat roof. Thanks to the crane's impressive performance, all transport tasks were completed in record time, resource-efficiently, and with minimal physical strain. The efficient removal of old materials made way for a new sloped roof made of polystyrene with 240 mm insulation thickness and multi-layer bituminous waterproofing. After a large material delivery, the crane lifted 160 m³ of insulation to the roof in 35 moves. In another 15 lifts, it transported 800 kg pallets of welding membranes onto the flat roof. Both the main mast and the strong aluminum jib can telescope hydraulically, fully extended with a load of up to 1,000 kg, and do so quickly.

A key advantage of the AK 48 is its outstanding reach. With a load of 1,000 kg, the crane achieves a reach of 28.5 m at a height of 30 m. This extensive range allows materials to be placed in distant or hard-to-reach roof areas. At Lago, for example, a 10 m wide intermediate roof section had to be overcome to transport materials to a higher-level roof. Thanks to the crane, all pallets reached their designated locations without repositioning or additional handling.

Another highlight of the AK 48 is its infinite 360° slewing capability, which enables all rotational movements to be executed via the shortest possible path. With maximum support, the crane can lift its full payload in any direction, significantly simplifying operations.

In addition to reach and load capacity, the AK 48 impresses with its remarkable speed. Its powerful hydraulics ensure particularly quick execution of all crane functions, guaranteeing highly efficient operations. The latest generation of control technology makes operating the AK 48 simple and safe. Features include a range preview during crane setup, auto-leveling, automatic rope tracking, limitation of rotation and tilt angles, automatic tower crane mode, and a "go-home" function.

With its point-to-point function, the crane automatically returns to the same position for picking up loads on the ground and unloading them on the roof, saving valuable time, especially during large material deliveries like at the Lago renovation. The 50 lifts were completed in less than four hours, allowing the roofers to promptly begin re-covering the roof.
