Grizawood: Weathered Thermally Modified Wooden Claddings
Depending on the season, we require 3-5 months of outdoor weathering for thermally modified wood in our weathering booth to age and pre-grey our wood. Chemically free, just like our thermally modified timber!
Thermally modified wood is a chemical-free, durable, and dimensionally stable solid wood, mainly applied for the construction of cladding and decking. Swero's high-temperature treatment at 225-230 °C yields resistance class 1 for all domestic softwoods. High temperatures evaporate extractives and break down lignin. The weathering process is significantly accelerated while the wood stays dimensionally stable. In our back-ventilated weathering booth, the wood quickly obtains a greyish/silverish patina. The booth is permanently monitored, the greying process is controlled, and the boards are regularly cleaned. Slow, diverse, and unpredictable greying processes at the installation site are thus excluded.
