Magnumboard OSB // HybridWood receives European Technical Assessment (ETA)

With the receipt of the European Technical Assessment (ETA), the use of our solid OSB/4 ceiling elements is approved throughout Europe – for large spans, flexible floor plans, and the highest fire and sound insulation requirements.

Milestone for use in public construction and large-scale projects

In December 2025, we received the European Technical Assessment (ETA) for our solid OSB/4 ceiling elements Magnumboard OSB // HybridWood – a decisive step for planning reliability, market access, and the economic realization of demanding construction projects throughout Europe. The approval is valid in 27 countries and means that there is no longer any need for time-consuming individual calculations – the structural performance has now been proven throughout Europe.

Options for public buildings and large-scale projects

The solid OSB/4 ceilings with tension-reinforced concrete ribs enable large spans of up to 8.70 meters. This opens up a wide range of applications, particularly in public construction and large-scale projects, such as multi-story apartments, schools, hotels, offices, and buildings up to building class 5.

This allows for free interior design. Without load-bearing walls or supports, floor plans remain flexible and offer scope for later conversions. This gives planners, architects, and structural engineers maximum flexibility.

The additional option of designing the ceiling elements as multi-span beams that extend across several supports/rooms is unique on the market and enables even greater spans or more favorable dimensions – HybridWood is currently the only wood-concrete composite system system that can implement more than single-span beams.

Impressive sound insulation and fire protection

With very slim and cost-effective design options, we achieve, among other things, sound insulation – impact sound Ln,w up to 44 dB, airborne sound Rw up to 77 dB.

Another milestone is the successful completion of the REI 90 fire test: the solid wood-concrete composite ceiling achieves 90 minutes of fire resistance with an additional load of 4 kN/m² and with the lowest certified ceiling thickness of 210 mm.

System diversity for different requirements

The following product variants are available for different spans and visual qualities:

  • MB – Zero (210–350 mm) OSB surface as a standardized solution, including the option of direct coating of the underside of the ceiling
  • MB – Fsi (210–350 mm) visible spruce wood surface on the underside of the ceiling
  • MB – max (210–350 mm) maximum system performance, including the option of direct coating of the underside of the ceiling

With this European Technical Assessment (ETA), we are laying the foundation for MAGNUMBOARD® OSB HybridWood to be used throughout Europe, simplifying approval processes and allowing greater freedom in planning. We look forward to working with our partners to realize even more innovative timber construction projects in the future.
