Surfaces on balconies, terraces, loggias, and walkways often need to withstand high mechanical stresses and be protected against moisture, water, and UV radiation for long-term durability. Especially during colder seasons, the wear and tear layer is at risk. Damage to the surface can occur with tiled coverings.
Roofing companies traditionally prioritize the safety and health of their employees. In addition to numerous obligations and occupational safety requirements, protecting against hazardous substances is becoming increasingly important. To minimize health risks for roofers when working with liquid plastics, the ELAPRO balcony system provides sustainable and pollutant-free protection for balconies, terraces, loggias, and walkways, allowing companies to protect the health of their employees and comply with legal requirements.
However, commercial and private end customers rightfully demand the use of physiologically harmless liquid seals to protect roofs, balconies, terraces, loggias, walkways, or entire structures. They are increasingly requesting the use of solvent-free and pollutant-free liquid plastic seals.
As regulated in the flat roof guideline and DIN 18531, when constructing a complete balcony, the liquid seal is applied wet-on-wet. First, connections and details are sealed, and later, the surface is partially sealed: building the base layer, embedding the fleece, and applying the topcoat. Unlike applying liquid plastics on the roof, the perforated fleece is laid edge to edge in the surface and covered with seam tape. Unevenness caused by overlapping fleece ends is avoided, thus enabling a smooth surface coating.
To finish in one day regardless of weather conditions, a bottle of ELAPRO QuickDry accelerator is added to the ELAPRO 1k-SIL or ELAPRO 1k-SIL blu sealing compound. ELAPRO QuickDry shortens the curing time of the sealant to three to four hours, allowing it to be coated immediately.
As a mechanically strong and durable wear layer, the solvent-free and pollutant-free thick coating ELAPRO Topcoat is applied, available in light and dark gray. Immediately afterward, individually mixable color chips are sprinkled. Chips serve both surface aesthetics and slip resistance. The thick coating is rainproof after just one hour, so the chips are applied within the first three-quarters of an hour.
